Erin L. McCoy named writer-in-residence at The Alice

I was honored to be the writer-in-residence for an innovative show at The Alice gallery in Georgetown, Seattle, in Spring 2018. I got the opportunity to go sit for hours among the pieces produced for Thru the Roof, including Regina Mamou's orchids display and Gonzalo Reyes Rodriguez's installation of a neon sign that reads, "Progreso." The poem I wrote in response has been published on The Alice's website.

Here is the concept behind the show, curated by Dan Paz:"Thru the Roof" is a visual meditation on exit strategies: leaving, staying, and the affective places between and beyond. In examining tactics for departure, we may tangentially ask, what are ideas and objects that point us toward home? How does our future thinking prepare us to survive in the present?Aaaaand just a few photos from my writing time:
